Historical Description
Claverley, a village, a township, and a parish in Salop. The township lies near the boundary with Staffordshire, 6 miles E of Bridgnorth, and has a post and money order office under Bridgnorth; telegraph office, Bridgnorth. The parish contains also the townships of Aston, Beobridge, Broughton,. Dallicott, Farmcott, Gatacre, Heathton, Hopstone, Ludstone, Shipley, Sutton, and Woundale. Acreage, 8185; population of the civil parish, 1552; of the ecclesiastical, 1498. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Hereford; gross value,. £300 with residence. The church is ancient, and contains a Norman font and a monument of 1558 to Sir Robert Brooke, lord chief-justice.

Church of England
All Saints (parish church)
The church of All Saints is an ancient building of red sandstone, in mixed styles, consisting of chancel with north and south chapels, nave, south porch and an embattled western tower with pinnacles, containing a clock and 6 bells: the two chancel chapels belong to the Gatacre family: there is a monument to Sir Robert Brooke kt. a native of this parish, Speaker of the House of Commons, 1554, and sometime Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, ob. 6 Sept. 1558; a stone font of Norman date beautifully carved, and seven stained windows; four to members of the Gatacre family, dated Feb. 7, 1817, Nov. 24, 1849, and others to Mr. John Crowther, of Wednesbury, d. 16 March, 1857; Thomas Hatham Windle, d. May 3, 1855, and Joseph Perry esq. d. March 29, 1877, and a memorial window to Mrs. Gatacre, d. May 15, 1878. The church was restored in 1902 at a cost of £4,000, and during the operations a mural painting was discovered; it is supposed to depict an incident in the battle of Hastings and to have been executed about the year 1130: there are 430 sittings.
