Scrooby, Nottinghamshire

Historical Description

Scrooby, a parish, with a village, in Notts, on the G.N.R., 1½ mile S of Bawtry, with a station on the railway. It has a post office under Bawtry; money order and telegraph office, Bawtry. Acreage, 1608; population, 219. The manor belongs to the Archbishop of York, and the manor house was a palace of the archbishops. The living is a vicarage, annexed to Sutton, in the diocese of Southwell. The church is good, and has a lofty spire. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
