Historical Description

Wittering or Whittering, a parish in Northamptonshire, 2¾ miles from Wansford Road station on the L. & N.W.R., and 3½ SSE of Stamford. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Wansford. Acreage, 2270; population, 228. The manor belongs to the Marquis of Exeter, who owns the whole of the land with the exception of the glebe. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; net value, £106 with residence. Patron, the Marquis of Exeter. The church is an ancient building of stone in mixed styles, with a western tower and a pyramidal spire. It has a massive Saxon chancel arch, two Norman arches, and a Norman font.
