Wicken or Wykens, Northamptonshire

Historical Description

Wicken or Wykens, anciently two parishes known as Wyke Dyve and Wyke Hamon, now a parish in Northamptonshire, on the Bucks border, 5 miles from Wolverton station on the L. & N.W.R., and 3½ WSW of Stony Stratford. It has a post office under Stony Stratford; money order and telegraph office, Deanshanger. Acreage, 2321; population, 442. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The manor with Wicken Park belongs to Lord Penrhyn, who is sole landowner. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; net value, £280 with residence in the gift of Lord Penrhyn. The church is a building of stone consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, S porch, and a western pinnacled tower.
