Historical Description
Wakerley, a parish in Northamptonshire, on the south bank of the Welland and the borders of Rutland, 6 miles E from Uppingham. It has a station on the Peterborough and Market Harborough section of the L. & N.W.R. Post town, Stamford; money order office, Barrowden; telegraph office, South Luffenham. Acreage, 1890; population, 167. The manor with all the land belongs to the Marquis of Exeter. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; net value, £100 with residence, in the gift of the Marquis of Exeter. The church, which consists of chancel, nave, aisles, transepts, N porch, and an embattled western tower with spire, is a cruciform building of stone in the Late Norman and Early English styles.
