Historical Description
Thurning, a village and a parish in Northamptonshire, 3 miles ESE of Barnwell station on the Northampton and Peterborough branch of the L. & N.W.R., and 5 SE of Oundle. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Oundle. Acreage, 1017; population, 182. The manor belongs to Earl Sandwich. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ely; net value, £134 with residence. Patron, Emmanuel College, Cambridge. The church, which was almost wholly rebuilt in 1880, is a building of stone in the Norman and Early English styles, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, S porch, and a western tower with broach spire.
