Easton or Easton on the Hill, Northamptonshire

Historical Description

Easton or Easton-on-the-Hill, a parish in Northamptonshire, at the verge of the county, on the river Welland, and 2½ miles WSW from Stamford stations on the M.R. and G.N.R. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Stamford. Acreage, 3350; population, 914. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; net yearly value, £336. Patron, the Marquis of Exeter. The church is ancient, and has a tower. There is a Wesleyan chapel;. also an endowed school and some small charities.

All Saints (parish church)

The church of All Saints is an ancient edifice of stone in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, clerestoried nave, aisles, south porch and an embattled western tower with pinnacles containing 4 bells: in 1888 the chancel was thoroughly restored at a cost of nearly £200: the south aisle was re-roofed in oak in 1913: in 1912 a reredos was given by Miss Harrisson: there are 450 sittings.
