Strumpshaw, Norfolk
Historical Description
Strumpshaw, a parish, with a village, in Norfolk, 1½ mile N of Buckenham station on the Norwich and Lowestoft section, 1 from Longwood station on the L. & N.W.R., 1½ E from Brundall Junction station on the Norwich and Yarmouth section of the G.E.R., and 8 miles E of Norwich. It has a post office under Norwich; money order office, Blofield; telegraph office, Brundall. Acreage, 1381; population of the civil parish, 386; of the ecclesiastical, with Bradeston, 550. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The Hall is a modern mansion standing in a well-wooded park. The living is a rectory, united with Bradeston, in the diocese of Norwich; gross value, £490 with residence. The church, which was restored in 1892-93, is a building of flint, partly Early English, with a fine tower. An organ was added to the church in 1895. It has some ancient brasses and several good stained windows.
