Spixworth, Norfolk

Historical Description

Spixworth, a village and a parish in Norfolk, 4 miles N by E of Norwich, and 4 NW from Salhouse station on the Cromer branch of the G.E.R. Post town, Norwich; money order and telegraph office, Horsham St Faith's. Acreage, 1235; population, 72. The manor with Spixworth Hall, a fine mansion of red brick standing in a pleasant park, belongs to the Longe family. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich; gross value, £273 with residence. The church, which contains some ancient memorials of the Peck and Longe families, is a plain building of rubble in the Early English style. Archbishop Hoadley was rector.
