Quidenham, Norfolk
Historical Description
Quidenham, a village and a parish in Norfolk, on an affluent of the Little Ouse river, 1¼ mile S of Eccles Road station on the Thetford and Norwich section of the G.E.R., and 2½ miles ENE of East Harling. There is a post, money order, and telegraph office under Thetford. Acreage, 1142; population of the civil parish, 161; of the ecclesiastical, with Snetterton, 369. The property belongs to Lord Egerton of Tatton, who is also lord of the manor. Quidenham Hall is a fine mansion of red brick pleasantly situated in a well-wooded park of 320 acres. The living is a rectory, united with the rectory of Snetterton, in the diocese of Norwich; net value, £317 with residence. Patron, the Earl of Albe-marle. The church is a building chiefly in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, S aisle, N transept, a high Norman porch, and a round western tower with octangular lantern. It contains some good stained windows and several ancient and interesting memorials.
