Oulton, Norfolk
Historical Description
Oulton, a parish, with a village, in Norfolk, near the rives Bure, 3¼ mile WNW of Aylsham station on the East Norfolk branch of the G.E.R., 1 mile N from Bluestone station on the Midland and Great Northern Joint railway, and 11 miles ENE of Elmham. It has a post office under Aylsham (R.S.O.); money order and telegraph office, Aylsham. Acreage, 1866; population, 372. There is a parish council consisting of seven members. The manor belongs to the Lytton-Bulwes family. Oulton Hall is an ancient mansion and the seat of the Bolton family. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Norwich; gross value, £153 with residence. The church is an ancient building of brick and stone in the Early English style of architecture, consisting of chancel, nave, S porch, and an embattled western tower. A Congregational chapel was built in 1725, and has a neat residence for its minister and a graveyard.
