Oby or Owby, with Ashby, Norfolk

Historical Description

Oby or Owby, with Ashby, forms a civil parish in Norfolk, on the river Bure, 4½ miles N of Acle, and 4 SW of Martham station on the Midland and Great Northern Joint railway. Post town, Yarmouth; money order and telegraph office, Martham. Acreage of Ashby and Oby, 1394; population, 90. The living is a rectory, united with the rectories of Ashby and Thurne, in the diocese of Norwich. The church has long since gone to decay, but its foundation and part of its floor were discovered in 1882. The church for the two rectories is in Thurne, but the parsonage is in Oby.
