Historical Description

Garveston or Garston, a village and a parish in Norfolk. The village (locally pronounced Gare-son) stands three-fourths of a mile W of Thuxton station on the G.E.R., and 5 miles SSE of East Dereham, and has a post office of the name of Garveston under Attleborough; money order office, Thuxton; telegraph office, Yaxham. The parish comprises. 823 acres; population, 322. The right of lord of the manor was decided in the time of King Edward by the tenants in single combat. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich; net yearly value, under £190 with residence. The-church is a building of stone in the Early Decorated style, has an embattled tower and an old font, and is good. The-tower is a beautiful object for miles round. There is a. j Primitive Methodist chapel.
