Wymondham, Leicestershire
Historical Description
Wymondham, a township and a parish, with a village, in Leicestershire, 6½ miles E of Melton Mowbray. It has a station on the Saxby and Bourn branch of the M.R., and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Oakham. Area, 2928 acres; population, 905. There is a parish council consisting of six members. The manor belongs to the Gretton family. Roman remains have been found. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; gross value, £406 with residence, in the gift of the Bishop of Peterborough. The church is a cruciform building in the Early English style, with W tower and spire, and was interiorly restored in 1864,1873, and 1893. There are Congregational and Wesleyan chapels, and an endowed grammar school.
