Saddington, Leicestershire

Historical Description

Saddington, a parish in Leicestershire, around a lofty hill, adjacent to the Union Canal, 2 miles SW of Kibworth station on the M.R. main line, and 6 NW by W of Market Harborongh. It has a post office under Market Harborough; money order office, Fleckney; telegraph 6ffice, Kibworth Harcourt. Acreage, 1713; population, 182. The Union Canal has here a reservoir of 57 acres, and passes through a tunnel 2400 feet long on the NE boundary. There is a mineral spring. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; net value, £260 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is an edifice of stone in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, and an embattled western tower. There are a Baptist chapel and a few small charities.
