Muston, Leicestershire
Historical Description
Muston, a village and a parish in Leicestershire. The village stands on the river Devon, adjacent to the boundary with Lincolnshire, near the Grantham Canal, 1¼ mile ESE of Bottesford station on the G.N.R., and 5½ miles W by N of Grantham, and has a post office under Nottingham y money order and telegraph office, Bottesford. The parish comprises 1696 acres; population, 290. There is an ancient market cross in the village. The manor belongs to the Duke of Rutland. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; net value, £303 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is a handsome building of stone in the Early English and later styles, and consists of nave, aisles, chancel, and two porches, with western tower and spire. There is a Free Methodist chapeL The poet Crabbe was rector here in 1813, and there is a memorial tablet to his wife in the chancel of the church.
