Historical Description
Holwell, a township-chapelry in Ab kettleby parish, Leicestershire, 3½ miles NNW from Melton Mowbray. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Melton Mowbray. Area, 1408 acres; population, 238. The manor belongs to the Earl of Dysart. There is a chalybeate spring, called Holwell Mouth. The living is a perpetual curacy, annexed to the vicarage of Abkettleby, in the diocese of Peterborough. The church is a small and ancient building of stone, with a bell turret. There is a Wesleyan chapel. Ironstone is found.
