Garthorpe, a village and a parish in Leicestershire, 2 miles NNE of Saxby station on the M.R., and 5g- ENE of Melton Mowbray. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Melton Mowbray. Acreage, 1635; population, 125. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Peterborough; gross yearly value, £150 with residence. Patron, the Earl of Dysart. The church is a building of stone in the Early English and Decorated styles.

St. Mary (parish church)
The church of St. Mary is a building of stone in the Early English and Decorated styles, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, porch and an embattled western tower, with crocketed pinnacles, containing 3 bells, two of which are dated respectively 1600 and 1608: a new font cover of carved oak was presented in 1898: the communion plate includes a silver flagon dated 1675: the church was restored in 1895, at a cost of £1,000: there are 200 sittings.
