Historical Description

Eastwell, a village and a parish in Leicestershire, on the Wolds, 6¼ miles NNE from Melton-Mowbray town, and 3 NE from Long Clawson station on the G.N. and L. & N.W. Joint railways, with a post office under Melton-Mowbray; money order office, Stathern; telegraph office, Harby. Acreage, 1361; population, 200. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough; net yearly value, £293 with residence. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is a small building of stone in the Early English style, and there is a Roman Catholic chapel, erected in 1798. East Wellow. See WELLOW.

St. Michael (parish church)

The church of St. Michael is a small building of stone in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, clerestoried nave of three bays, aisles, south porch and an embattled western tower containing one bell: in the chancel is a tomb with the recumbent figure of a priest, but undated and without inscription: the south aisle retains a piscina and an aumbry: the church was reseated in 1861, and affords 96 sittings.
