Roby, Lancashire

Historical Description

Roby, an ecclesiastical parish, forming part of Huyton-with-Roby township, Lancashire, with a station on the L. & N.W.R., 6 miles E of Liverpool, and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Liverpool. The township of Huyton-with-Roby has, under the Local Government Act, an urban district council. It is divided into four wards and has twelve members. Roby Hall is the seat of the Edwards-Moss family, and occupies the site of an ancient mansion. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1853. Population, 1105. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Liverpool; net value, £360 with residence. Patron, the Earl of Derby.
