Rampside, Lancashire

Historical Description

Rampside, a chapelry and suburban district within the boundaries of the county borough of Barrow-in-Furness Lancashire, on the coast near the ancient harbour of Piel, to which there is a branch of the Furness railway with a station for Rampside. There is a post office under Barrow-in-Furness; money order office, Barrow; telegraph office, Piel. Population of district, 10,416. The chapelry was constituted in 1887. Population, 366. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Carlisle; net value, £165 with residence. Patron, the Vicar of Dalton. The church is old, and consists of nave and western tower. A chancel was added in 1892, and the burying-ground was enlarged in 1889-90. There is an excellent parish room.
