Lower Holker, Lancashire
Historical Description
Holker, Lower, a village and a township in Cartmel parish, Lancashire. The village stands 2 miles SW of Cartmel town, and half a mile from Cark-in-Cartmel station on the Furness railway, and contains several residences. There is-a post, money order, and telegraph office at Cark. The township includes the village of Flookburgh. Acreage, 2387, and 2500 of foreshore; population, 1190. The manor belongs½ to Victor C. W. Cavendish, Esq., M.P. Holker Hall, a spacious edifice, has undergone much improvement, contains-a fine collection of paintings, and stands in a well-wooded park, extending to the shore of Morecambe Bay.
