Little Hulton, Lancashire
Historical Description
Hulton, Little, a village and a township, with two ecclesiastical parishes, in Deane parish, Lancashire. The village stands 2½ miles WSW of Halshaw Moor, and 3½ S of Bolton, is a considerable place, inhabited chiefly by colliers, and has a station on the L. & N.W.R., and a post, money order, and telegraph office, under Bolton. Acreage of township, 1707; population, 6693. The two ecclesiastical parishes are Peel or Little Hulton (population, 3225), and Little Hnlton (3359). Kenyon Peel Hall belongs to Lord Kenyon. Coal is largely worked. The living of St Paul (Peel), is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester; gross value, £300 with residence. Patron, Lord Kenyon. The church is a plain building with a bell turret The living of St John the Baptist (Little Hulton) is a vicarage in the diocese of Manchester; gross value, £300 with residence. There are a school-room used for worship, and Roman Catholic, Wesleyan, and Primitive Methodist chapels.
