Hawcoat or Newbarns-with-Hawcote, an ecclesiastical parish in Lancashire, lies on an eminence 2 miles W of Dalton, and contains a remarkable tower which commands extensive views to the Lake Mountains, Fleetwood, Wales,. and the Isle of Man. It is 1 mile from Fumess Abbey station on the Fumess railway. Post town, money order, and telegraph office, Barrow-in-Furness. Population of Hawcote-with-Newbams, 2114. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Carlisle; gross value, £310 with residence. Patrons, Simeon's Trustees. The church, built in 1871 at a cost of about £2000, is in the Gothic style. The manor belongs to the Duke of Buccleuch.
