Bradford, Lancashire

Historical Description

Bradford, a township in Manchester parish, Lancashire,, adjacent to the M.S. & L.R., 2 miles E of Manchester, under which it has a post, money order, and telegraph office. The township was incorporated with Manchester in 1890, and is now included in the city. The parish of Christ Church, Bradford, Manchester, includes nearly the whole of Bradford, part of Beswick, and part of Openshaw, and has a population of 25,975. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Manchester; gross value, £300 with residence, in the patronage of the Bishop. The church was built in 1862, at a cost. of £3500; it is in the Early English style, and cruciform. There are Wesleyan and Free Methodist chapels and a police station. See MANCHESTER.
