Historical Description

Trottiscliffe or Trosley, a parish in Kent, 3 miles NW of Mailing station on the L.C. & D.R. It has a post office under Maidstone; money order and telegraph office, Wrotham Heath. Acreage, 1155; population, 294. The manor was given in 788 to Rochester Priory, passed to the Bishops of Rochester, and had a palace of theirs, built in 1185. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Canterbury; gross value, £290 with residence. The church is Early Norman.
