Eythorne, Kent
Historical Description
Eythorne, a village and a parish in Kent. The village stands on a pleasant spot, l½ mile NE of Shepherds Well station on the L.C. & D.R., and 6¼ NNW of Dover; it commands a fine view of the surrounding country to the sea. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Dover. The parish comprises 1149 acres; population, 439. Eythorne House and Elvington are chief residences. There are some barrows. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Canterbury; net value, £290 with residence. The church is Later English, and was restored in 1875. There are a Baptist chapel and some charities.
