Ladder Chime, Isle of Wight

Historical Description

Ladder Chime, a chasm on the SW coast of the Isle of Wight, 3½ miles SSE of Brixton. It descends from a bold-shaped hollow to a mere fissure, is flanked by cliffs about 160 feet high, and took its name from the fact that a ladder was formerly the only means of going down from it to the beach and fishermen's huts below.
