Thundridge, Hertfordshire
Historical Description
Thundridge, a parish in Herts, 2½ miles N by E of Ware station on the G.E.R., and 4 NE from Hertford. It contains part of Wades Mill village, which has a post office under Ware; money order and telegraph office, High Cross. Acreage, 2206; population of the civil parish, 450; of the ecclesiastical, 354. There is a parish council consisting of five members. The manor belongs to the Puller family. Poles, a seat of the Hanbury family, is a modern mansion standing in a park of 100 acres. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of St Albans; net value, £170 with residence. The church, erected in 1853, is a building of Kentish rag in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, S porch, and an embattled western tower.
