Rotherwas, Herefordshire

Historical Description

Rotherwas, a quondam chapelry in Dinedor parish, Herefordshire, on the river Wye, 2 miles ESE of Hereford. Its church became part of farm buildings. Rotherwas House belonged in the time of James I. to Sir Roger Bodenham, and is said to have then given lodging for a night to the king. The present mansion is a handsome red-brick structure, erected in 1731, and retaining portions of the old house.
