Newton (Clodock), Herefordshire

Historical Description

Newton, a township and an ecclesiastical parish in Clodock parish, Herefordshire, on the river Eskley, 4 miles W of Abbeydore, 3 SW of Vowchurch station on the Golden Valley railway, and 5 NW of Pontrilas station on the G.W.R. Post town and telegraph office, Pontrilas (R.S.O.); money order office, Ewyas Harold. Acreage of township, 1754; population, 223. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Hereford; net value, £80. Patron, the Vicar of Clodock. The church was erected in 1842 and restored in 1869. There is a Primitive Methodist chapel.
