Kingsworthy, Hampshire

Historical Description

Kingsworthy, a village and a parish in Hants. The village stands among finely-timbered slopes on the N bank of the Itchin, 2 miles NNE of Winchester station on the L. & S.W.R. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office-under Winchester. The parish includes the tithing of Abbotsworthy, and comprises 2237 acres; population, 502. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Winchester; value, £380 with residence. Patron, the Earl of Northbrook. The church is Early Perpendicular, and has been enlarged and beautified. The parsonage is a spacious edifice in the Queen Anne style, and was erected at a cost of £10, 000 by the late-Sir Thomas Baring as a residence for his son, the Bishop of Durham. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
