Hartley Wintney, Hampshire
Historical Description
Hartley Wintney, a village and a parish in Hants. The village stands 2 miles NW of Winchfield station on the L. & S.W.R., and 3½ NE by N of Odiham. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Winchfield. The parish contains also the hamlets of West Green and Dipley. Acreage, 2451; population, 1916. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Winchester; value, £70 with residence. The old church is ancient, of various dates; and the new one, in the Decorated style, was built in 1869. There are Baptist and Wesleyan chapels, and a workhouse. A Cistercian nunnery was formerly at Wintney Moor.
