Hill, Gloucestershire
Historical Description
Hill, a village and a parish in Gloucestershire, on the Severn, 4 miles N of Thombury. The village has a post office under Falfield (R.S.O.); money order and telegraph office, Falfield. The parish comprises 2053 acres; population, 214. Hill Court, supposed to occupy the site of a nunnery of the 12th century, belongs to the Fust family. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol; net value, £140 with residence. The church is Early English, and has a mortuary chapel containing monuments of the Fust family. It is well fitted with handsome oak benches of the 14th century, in good preservation.

St. Michael (parish church)
The church of St. Michael is an ancient building of stone, in the Early English style, repaired in 1759, and consists of chancel with south chapel, nave, south porch and a small western tower, with spire, containing one bell: the old oak benches date from the 14th century: the chancel is raised considerably above the nave, and has on its south side the Fust mortuary chapel, built by Sir Edward Fust, 3rd bart. about 1700, and repaired in 1864 by Herbert Jenner-Fust esq. of Hill Court: there are 150 sittings.
