Blaise Castle, Gloucestershire

Historical Description

Blaise-Castle, the seat of the Harford family, in Henbury parish, Gloucestershire, stands in a picturesque limestone ravine, 4 miles NNW of Bristol. The house is modern, and contains a fine collection of pictures. The grounds are beautiful, and have a lofty tower which commands a brilliant view across the Severn into Wales. There is a Roman encampment in the grounds. Ten cottages, built here in 1810 from a design by Nash, for the aged servants of the family, are remarkable for beauty of design and situation.
