Whorlton, a township-chapelry in Gainford parish, Durham, 3½ miles SW of Winston station, and 3½ ESE of Barnard Castle. It has a post and money order office under Darlington; telegraph office, Barnard Castle. Acreage, 1972; population, 249. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Durham; net value, £116. Patron, the Vicar of Gainford. The church is in the Decorated style, and consists of chancel, nave, and turret. There is a Congregational chapel.
