Sea Houses, Durham
Historical Description
Sea Houses, a seaport village, 1 mile from North Sunderland, and 1½ from Chathill station on the N.E.R. It has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Chathill (R.S.O.) The chief industries are fishing and fish-curing, and the harbour, opened in 1889, was for the benefit of the fishermen, and is chiefly used in the herring season. There are a Primitive Methodist chapel and a lifeboat station.
