Garmondsway Moor, Durham
Historical Description
Garmonds-way Moor, a parish in Durham, 6½ miles SE by S of Durham, and 1 mile from Coxhoe Bridge station on theN.E.R. Acreage, 1149; population, 160. TheViaGar-mundi, or road of Gormond the Dane, by which Canute went barefooted to the shrine of St Cuthbert at Durham, traversed the township, and gave rise to its name. Raisby Hill limestone quarries and lime works are situated here.
