BUCKLAND-NEWTON, alias Buckland-Abbas, a village 3 miles N. from Cerne and 10 N. from Dorchester. The church is in the Gothic style, with an embattled tower, and the living a vicarage, there is a free school and a Dissenting chapel. The parish, with Brockhampton, Dentish, Knowl, Minterne Parva and Plush, comprises about 6000 acres, and the population in 1841 was 980.
