Nutwell, Devon

Historical Description

Nutwell, a hamlet in Woodbury parish, Devonshire, on the river Exe, and 2¼ miles SSE of Topsham. Nutwell Court was transmuted from a castle into a handsome mansion by Lord Dinham, in the time of Edward IV., passed to Lord Heathfield, is now the seat of the Drake family, and contains a portrait and relics of Sir Francis Drake.
