Stanton by Bridge, Derbyshire

Historical Description

Stanton-by-Bridge, a parish in Derbyshire, 2 miles from Melbourne station on a branch of the M.R., and 6½ S by E of Derby. It has a post and money order office under Derby; telegraph office, Melbourne. Acreage, 1433, of which 25 are water; population, 116. The living is a rectory, united in 1868 with Swarkestone, in the diocese of Southwell; gross value, £567 with residence. The church was restored in 1866, and consists of chancel, nave, N aisle, Norman S porch, and a bell turret; contains an ancient font, a piscina, and a handsome reredos erected in 1879.
