Historical Description
HucknaIl-under-Huthwaite, a village and a township in Sntton-in-Ashfield parish, Notts. The village stands near the boundary with Derbyshire, with a station at Woodend on the M.R., 5 miles WSW of Mansfield, and has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Mansfield. The township is governed by a local board, and comprises 1199 acres; population, 3022. There is an extensive colliery, and the manufacture of cotton hose is carried on. Divine service is conducted in the schoolroom, and there are Wesleyan and Primitive and New Connexion Methodist chapels, and a cemetery opened in 1889.
