Glapwell, Derbyshire

Historical Description

Glapwell, a township in Bolsover parish, Derbyshire, 5¼miles NW of Mansfield, and 1¼ mile from Pleasley station <—n the M.R. It has a post office under Chesterfield; money order and telegraph office, Heath. Acreage, 774; population, 86. The Duke of Portland is lord of the manor. Glap-well Hall is the seat of the Hallowes family. There was once a chapel here, under Darling Abbey.
