Low Holme, Cumberland

Historical Description

Holme, Low, a township in the ancient parish of Holme Cultram, Cumberland. It lies on the Solway Firth, 2 miles from Abbey Town station on the North British railway, and includes the villages of Blitterlees, Seaville, and Skin-bumess, and the small port of Silloth. Post town and money order and telegraph office, Silloth (R.S.O.) Area, 6425 acres of land, and 3856 of tidal water and foreshore; population, 2522. The township is divided into the ecclesiastical parishes of St Paul and Christchurch, Silloth, constituted in 1850 and 1872. Population, 581 and 1941 respectively. See SILLOTH.
