Greysouthen, Cumberland

Historical Description

Greysouthen, a village and a township in Brigham parish, Cumberland, near the river Derwent, 1 mile from Broughton Cross station on the L. & N.W.R., and 3½ miles WSW of Cockermouth. There is a post office under Cocker-mouth; money order office, Brigham; telegraph office, Cockermouth. Acreage, 1646; population, 545. There is a Wesleyan chapel, a Quakers' meeting-house, and a school with small endowment. Lord Leconfield is lord of the manor and principal landowner.
