Bude Canal, Cornwall
Bude Canal, a canal of Cornwall and Devonshire. It. commences at Bude, goes eastward past Marham, Pancraswick, and Holsworthy to Thornbury, and sends a branch southward down the Tamar and into that river toward Launceston. It was formed in 1826 at a cost of £128,000, and it affords communication to the aggregate extent of nearly 40 miles. Seven inclined planes on it, worked by curious machinery, serve as substitutes for locks.
