Norbury (Stockport), Cheshire

Historical Description

Norbury, a village, a township, and an ecclesiastical parish in Stockport parish, Cheshire. The village stands near an affluent of the river Mersey, 1 mile SE of Hazlegrove station on the L. & N.W.R., and 3 miles SE of Stockport. The township contains also part of the village of Hazlegrove, which has a post, money order, and telegraph office under Stockport. Acreage, 1249; population, 1495. Coal is largely worked. The ecclesiastical parish includes also part of the parish of Cheadle, and was constituted in 1842. Population, 5246. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Chester; value, £170 with residence. The church was built in 1834; is in the Pointed style; comprises nave, aisles, and chancel, with a low tower; and has a stained E window.
