Hartford, Cheshire

Historical Description

Hartford, a village in Great Budworth parish, and a township and an ecclesiastical parish partly also in Weaverham parish, Cheshire. The village stands on the river Weaver, 1½ mile SW of Northwich, and has a station on the L. & N.W.R. There is also a station, called Hartford and Greenbank, on the Cheshire Lines railway, and a post, money order, and telegraph office under Northwich. The township comprises 1070 acres; population, 1570; of ecclesiastical parish, 1648. The ecclesiastical parish was constituted in 1864. Hartford Manor, Hartford Hall, Hartford House, Hartford Lodge, Beechfield, and Woodlands are chief residences. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Chester; value, £250. The church was rebuilt in 1875, and a tower was added in 1889. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
