Chester Canal, Cheshire

Historical Description

Chester Canal, a canal in Cheshire, 19 miles 88 chains in length, owned by the Shropshire Union Railway and Canal Company, and leased by the L. & N.W.R. It extends from Nantwich, where it joins the Birmingham Canal, to Harleston Junction, where it connects with the Ellesmere Canal, thence to Barbridge Junction through Calveley, Banbury, and Bees-ton, joining the Wirral line of the Ellesmere Canal at Chester, and also connecting with the river Dee at that point.
