St. James, Dorney, Buckinghamshire
Description
The parish church of St. James consists of chancel, nave, north chapel, south porch, and an embattled western tower of the Tudor period, containing 4 bells; portions of the church date from the 12th century; there is a west gallery, bearing the date 1634; the font is Norman: the east window is stained; in the north chapel is a fine monument with effigies of Sir William Garrard kt. ob. Nov. 17, 1607, his wife and their 15 children; under the gallery is a small stained glass window which contains a picture of Charles I. inserted in his honour in accordance with the will of J. H. Moriarty, Lieut. R.G.A. who was killed in action in 1915; there is a litany desk presented to the church in memory of five men connected with the parish who fell in the Great War, 1914-18; on this desk is a brass plate with the names of the men inscribed: there are 100 sittings.
